Advanced studies Program in Computation applied to Architecture, Urban Planning and Design
It is, therefore, the main aim of the computation courses’ body, and particularly by means of the Curso de Estudos Avançados em Computação Aplicada à Arquitectura, Urbanismo e Design [Advanced Studies Course in Computation Applied to Architecture, Urbanism and Design - CEACAAUD], to replace the rudimentary idea that computation only provides representation tools. It aims to replace it for a vision that is more coherent with international, more advanced perspectives that propose computation as an extension of reasoning and analysis capabilities, constituting a disciplinary body of various specific types of knowledge to support the general project courses. This disciplinary body is expressed in an integrated manner through the collection of courses offered by the CEACAAUD, assuming a transdisciplinary character in what pertains the project activities, with the particularity of introducing a pioneering discussion in the scope of project methods.
The courses proposed in this context also aim to enrich the offer of elective courses for the doctoral studies and for the 2nd cycle, taking advantage of the positive synergies that arise from the generational collaboration between ‘digital natives’ and doctoral students that are generally more mature both methodologically and in the formulation and interpretation of problematics. With such an offer, we also fulfil gaps occurring from the lack of updating of study curricula, in which we verify the inexcusable absences of BIM in Architecture and GIS in Urbanism — factors that undermine the respective studies by lack of technological updates in practices that the labour market already considers indispensable.
