Fórum "Arquitetura, Design e Artes: a urgência do futuro"

O Fórum "Arquitetura, Design e Artes: a urgência do futuro" decorrerá no dia 13 de dezembro, entre as 10h e as 18h, no Auditório MAC/CCB. 

Sinopse: 

"Aparentemente, em condições normais, o Homem não consegue parar de pensar. Aliás, até quando se convence que parou de pensar, pensa nisso mesmo. E em que pensa ele? Pensa naquilo que vê, vendo fundamentalmente aquilo em que pensou. Pensa nele mesmo, confundindo o que quer ser com o que, de facto, é. Estranho não será, pois, que tenha despendido o seu tempo e a sua energia construindo um aparato cénico para se convencer de que o mundo é aquilo que ele desejava que o mundo fosse. Mas, infelizmente, para ele, o mundo não pode ser o que ele desejava que o mundo fosse. E, então, noutra tirada “genial”, inventou uma espécie de filtro que lhe permite reconhecer, no cenário da sua existência, o tal mundo desejado. Chamamos, de um modo geral, a esse filtro, “Cultura”. É aí mesmo, na Cultura, que ele se sente bem. Esta fixa os limites da sua acção sobre o mundo, definindo um universo de possibilidades; fixa, em relação à sua conduta, o que é justo, leal e legítimo; o que é feio e o que é belo; o que ele ousa querer e o que é inadequado (que eventualmente só é inadequado porque pertence, muitas vezes, a Culturas diferentes da sua). Por aí, a Cultura define até, de um modo geral, o sentido da atribuição de valor às acções e às coisas e as determinações da Cultura definem o perfil provável de cada um dos seus membros. Entretanto, na linha da frente dos instrumentos da Cultura, está, claro, a Arquitectura, que é, aliás, o método inventado pelo homem para forjar um cenário digno, uma espécie de reflexo dele-mesmo, onde quem habita esse cenário se reconhece no papel que a sociedade, através da instituição das suas próprias regras, lhe atribui. Com o Design, de resto, passa-se o mesmo. Com as Artes, por seu turno, é a espessura da mente humana, desdobrada em mundos imaginários, que revela a intimidade dos seus desejos e dos seus receios."

Este Fórum, olhando para o passado e para a situação presente, debate os potenciais cenários futuros desta relação vital e acontece no âmbito de um projecto de investigação mais amplo — M.A.P.A.S.: Matriz Arquitectónica de Princípios Auto-Suficientes — em desenvolvimento no CIAUD — Centro de Investigação em Arquitectura, Urbanismo e Design, Faculdade de Arquitectura, Universidade de Lisboa, apoiado pela FCT — Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P., liderado pelo SUSTENTA — Laboratório de Projecto Sustentável.

The Forum "Architecture, Design and Arts: the urgency of the future" will take place on the 13^th of December, between 10am and 6pm, at the MAC/CCB Auditorium. 

Synopsis:

"Under normal conditions man cannot stop thinking. In fact, even when he convinces himself that he has stopped thinking, he thinks about it. And what does he think about? He thinks about what he sees, basically seeing what he thought about. He thinks about himself, confusing what he wants himself to be with what he actually is. Therefore, there is nothing strange in the fact that he spent his time and energy building a scenic apparatus to convince himself that the world is what he wanted the world to be. But unfortunately for him, the world cannot be what he wanted the world to be. And then, in another “genius” move, he invented a kind of filter that allows him to recognize, in the scenario of his existence, this desired world. We generally call this filter “Culture”. He feels good, right there, in Culture. Belonging to a Culture sets the limits of his action on the world, defining a universe of possibilities; establishing, in relation to his conduct, what is fair, loyal and legitimate; what is ugly and what is beautiful; what he dares to want and what is inadequate (which is eventually only inadequate because it often belongs to Cultures different from his own). Therefore, Culture defines, in general, the meaning of giving value to actions and things and its determinations define the likely profile of each of the members of his community. At the forefront of the culture’s instruments, there is Architecture, which is the method invented by man to forge a dignified scenario, a kind of reflection of himself, where those who inhabit this scenario recognize themselves in the role they play, that society, through the institution with its own rules, assigns to them. In Design, happens the same. In Arts, it is the depth of the human mind, unfolded in imaginary worlds, that reveals the intimacy of its desires and fears."

This Forum is looking back to the past and to the present situation, debating the potential future scenarios for this vital relationship as a part of a wider research project — M.A.P.A.S.: Architectural Matrix of Self-Sufficient Principles — being developed at the CIAUD — Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design, School of Architecture, Universidade de Lisboa, supported by FCT — Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., led by SUSTENTA — Laboratory of Sustainable Project.
