Applications are submitted exclusively through the online platform - Fenix.
Access to the Fenix system depends on your status:
- Candidates who are current or former students of FA.ULisboa and have a ULisboa account (@campus.ul.pt or @edu.ulisboa.pt) must log in to Fenix and start the application process through the "Candidate" menu. If you do not remember your password, you should recover access [HERE].
- Former FA.ULisboa students who do not have a ULisboa account must contact the Academic Area via email at candidaturas@fa.ulisboa.pt to obtain their login credentials.
- External candidates to FA.ULisboa must first create a Fenix user account [HERE]
Applications for the normal regime in the 2025/2026 academic year:
1st Phase
Application period: from February 1 to February 28, 2025
Results announcement: by March 24, 2025
Pre-registration or Vacancy Reservation1: from March 25 to March 31, 2025
Announcement of available vacancies for the second phase: April 1, 2025
2nd Phase (if vacancies remain after the first phase)
Application period: from April 1 to April 30, 2025
Results announcement: by May 23, 2025

3rd Phase (if vacancies remain after the second phase)

1 As per Despacho n.º 5/2023, a security deposit of €300.00 is required for vacancy reservation. Failure to pay within the established deadlines will result in the loss of the vacancy, which will be made available in the next application phase. Upon enrolment/registration in the course, the amount paid as a security deposit will be applied towards the tuition fee, being deducted from the first instalment.
Note: There are advantages to submitting an application in the first phase, particularly the possibility of applying for a scholarship from the FCT: Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
Enrolment/registration: Usually in the first week of September for first-year students.

- Architecture - 35 vacancies
- Design - 30 vacancies
- Urbanism - 25 vacancies
Vacancies available for the 2nd Phase (number of vacancies may increase until April 4th, in case of withdrawal of candidates placed in the 1st phase):
- Architecture - 21 vacancies
- Design - 20 vacancies
- Urbanism - 21 vacancies
Vacancies available for the 3rd Phase(number of vacancies may increase until June 6th, in case of withdrawal of candidates placed in the 2nd phase):
- Architecture - 18 vacancies
- Design - 17 vacancies
- Urbanism - 20 vacancies
According to Article 30, paragraph 1, of Decreto-Lei n.º 65/2018, de 16 de agosto, the following individuals may apply for admission to doctoral degree programs:
- Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent;
- Holders of a bachelor's degree with an especially relevant academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the capacity to undertake this cycle of studies by the legally and statutorily competent scientific body of the university or university institute where they intend to be admitted;
- Individuals with an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the capacity to undertake this cycle of studies by the legally and statutorily competent scientific body of the university or university institute where they intend to be admitted.
The following documents must be submitted in the application process:
- Motivation letter;
- Curriculum Vitae - Professional/Academic;
- Certificate of qualifications or diploma proving the academic degree, including the final classification (average score). If originating from a country outside the European Union, it must be verified by the Portuguese consular service or presented with the Hague Apostille by the competent authority of the issuing country. If not issued in Portuguese, English, French, or Spanish, these documents must be officially translated into one of these languages;
- Copy of identification document or, alternatively, filling out a personal identification declaration form;
- Portfolio (only mandatory for applications to the PhD in Design);
- Other documents that the candidate considers relevant for the evaluation of their application (optional);
- Proof of payment (to be submitted after the application submission).
1. Portuguese and European Union Students
Tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic year 1:
- First year of enrolment: 3000€
- Subsequent years: 1750€
Payment structure:
- 10 monthly tuition fee instalments;
- First instalment, school insurance and administrative fee due at registration/enrolment;
- Remaining instalments paid throughout the academic year.
2. International Students
Tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic year1:
- First year of enrolment: 3000€
- Subsequent years: 1750€
Payment structure:
- 10 monthly tuition fee instalments;
- First instalment (which corresponds to 30% of the total annual tuition fee), school insurance and administrative fee due at registration/enrolment;
- Remaining instalments paid throughout the academic year.
