Isolated Curricular Units
Undergraduate, Integrated Master's, Master's and Doctorates
Applications are submitted exclusively through the online platform - Fenix.
Access to the Fenix system depends on your status:
- Candidates who are current or former students of FA.ULisboa and have a ULisboa account (@campus.ul.pt or @edu.ulisboa.pt) must log in to Fenix and start the application process through the "Candidate" menu. If you do not remember your password, you should recover access [HERE].
- Former FA.ULisboa students who do not have a ULisboa account must contact the Academic Area via email at candidaturas@fa.ulisboa.pt to obtain their login credentials.
- External candidates to FA.ULisboa must first create a Fenix user account [HERE]
1st Phase¹
Application period: August 25 to 29, 2025
Publication of results: September 3, 2025
Enrollment: September 4 and 5, 2025
2nd Phase²
Application period: January 26 to 30, 2026
Publication of results: February 4, 2026
Enrollment: February 5 and 6, 2026

Registration is dependent on the availability of spots in each curricular unit, with the maximum number to be set by the School’s governing body.
Who Can Apply for Isolated Curriculuar Units:
- Students from any School of ULisboa, or from a study cycle operating under the direct authority of the Reitoria who are enrolled in a study cycle different from the one to which the curricular unit belongs.
- Students from any School of ULisboa, or from a study cycle under the direct authority of the Reitoria, who are enrolled in a study cycle that includes the curricular unit as an optional subject, and wish to take it in addition to those required for completion of their Study Plan.
- Students from other higher education institutions, enrolled in study cycles outside ULisboa.
- Other individuals, with no affiliation to any higher education institution, provided they are over 16 years of age.
Students from foreign higher education institutions without a mobility agreement must apply as Free Movers. See more information HERE.
Applications for dissertation/final master’s project/internship curricular units are not accepted under this scheme.
Admission and Enrollment Requirements
According to Article 3 of the Regulation on Enrollment in Isolated Curricular Units at Universidade de Lisboa, the admission and attendance requirements are as follows:
- Each academic year, the maximum number of isolated curricular units a candidate may enroll in may not exceed a total of 30 ECTS.
- Exceptionally, this limit may be exceeded by a duly justified decision of the Director or President of the School, particularly in the case of final-year undergraduate students enrolling in master's level curricular units.
- When enrollment is under an assessment-based regime, each student may enroll in a maximum of 60 accumulated ECTS throughout their academic path.
- Enrollment is subject to the availability of spots in each curricular unit, with the maximum number of spots to be determined by the School’s governing body
- If the number of applicants exceeds the available spots, ranking criteria defined by the School’s governing body of each School will be applied.
- Enrollment in isolated curricular units is not subject to the prerequisites applicable to students enrolled under the general study regime.
- Enrollment in an isolated curricular unit may be subject to prior training requirements considered essential for a minimum understanding of the course content and acquisition of the relevant competencies; these will be defined by the competent authority of each School.
- Students enrolled only in isolated curricular units are not eligible for mobility programs.
- Copy of an identification document, or alternatively, completion of the personal identification declaration form / Passport / Foreign Identification Document and Tax Identification Number (NIF);
- Completion of the specific application form available in the FenixEdu system, indicating the isolated curricular units to which the applicant is applying.
Application Fee
Applications for isolated curricular units are subject to a non-refundable application fee of €100.
Tuition Fee
1st, 2nd Cycles and Integrated Master's Programmes:
Tuition = 2 × P × ECTSi / 30
3rd Cycle (Doctoral Programmes):
Tuition = P / 3 × ECTSi / 30
Where:
ECTSi = number of ECTS credits enrolled in
P = tuition fee set for the study cycle to which the course unit belongs
Enrollment in individual course units also requires payment of the School Insurance (€2.03) and an Administrative Fee (€40).
