About the Summer Course
THEME | DIGITAL DOCUMENTATION OF THE HISTORICAL BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Today, both scientific and cultural communities agree that knowledge of a heritage site should include both advanced three-dimensional documentation and active local community engagement. To answer this need, “Hidden Hamina” summer school consists of five integrated modules:
o traditional site ‘reading’ and sketching techniques
o terrestrial laser scanning
o aerial photogrammetry
o data processing and representation
o social analysis and community engagement
SITE | UNIQUE RENAISSANCE FORTRESS TOWN
The town of Hamina (Fredrikshamn) is located in the South-Eastern Finland, close to Russian border. Built in early 18th century, its ideal circular plan and star-like fortress system echoes Renaissance urban ideals, which exists only in three places in Europe. The summer school will focus on the underground spaces of the historic fortress and the Hamina Bastioni, and on selected cellars of the historical houses.
