Informamos que está aberto até ao dia 23 de dezembro a call/ inscrição para o workshop "Social and Cultural Design Workshop in Monchique". O presente workshop conta com a coordenação dos Professores Rita Filipe e Jorge Mealha. 

Serão selecionados 6 alunos das áreas de Arquitetura, Urbanismo e Design para participação no evento, que se realiza em duas datas: 22 e 27 de janeiro e 11 e 16 de junho.

The Lisbon School of Architeture aims to select up to 6 students to participate in the Social and Cultural Design Workshop in Monchique.

Participatory multidisciplinary project in the areas of urbanism, architecture and design with the support of social sciences. It is about rethinking and re-qualifying localities and people's life in the contemporary rural environment through strategies of valorisation of the local culture.

Social and Cultural Design in Monchique is a collaborative project working on cultural and social innovation in Monchique. With a focus on contemporary rurality, it aims at rethinking contemporary cultures and societies through design. What role can design play in rethinking contemporary cultures and societies?

The project takes issue, in particular, with rethinking the value of rurality through a local cosmopolitanism.

Through proposals in the fields of architecture, equipment and product design, communication design, fashion design and interactive design, the project envisages an updating of the interest of Monchique, a rural town in inner Algarve, with valuable cultural heritage and an ageing and gradually diminishing population.

Monchique is a village in Southern Portugal, with 2,300 inhabitants, located between the mountains and the sea, with vibrant craft and agricultural traditions and at risk of desertification. Monchique has also suffered the effects of dramatic fires in the region. It is therefore urgent to repopulate in the most appropriate way; to discover new solutions capable of attracting and retaining populations and to revitalise a traditional culture at risk of extinction.

Schedule and Location: 

The Social and Cultural Design Workshop in Monchique will held two local stays between two separate periods:

            between the 22^rd and 27^th January 2023

            between the 11^th and 16t^h June 2023

Elegible students: 

The open call its only open to students frequenting the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th Year of the Architecture, Urbanism and Design courses held at FAUL. There are available one student slot per each course held at FAUL.

The students will be selected trough the following criteria:

The students grades in their last 3 Semesters in Laboratório de Projecto. In case of draw it will be used has tie break criteria the students grades in the previous semester of each student in Laboratório de Projecto.

All travel expenses by train, accommodation and meals in Monchique are supported by the project.
